OIL RINSING AND ITS BENEFITS
Winter is here and so are all the winter hair problems, one of the most frustrating one being hair dryness. But don’t worry ladies; oil rinsing will help you combat this problem effectively this winter.
What is Oil Rinsing?
Oil rinsing is usually done in the shower, between shampooing and conditioning. It involves coating your hair with excess amount of hair oil and letting it sit for 10 to 15 minutes. It is then rinsed off with cool water.
Which oil to use?
The trickiest part about oil rinsing is choosing the appropriate oil. There are a variety of oils available such as olive, jojoba, castor, coconut or almond but you need to choose one that suits your hair. Beginners can start with olive oil because it works on almost all types of hair. Once you get habitual, you can mix two or three oils to get the best results.
How to do Oil Rinsing?
Oil rinsing is very simple. Shampoo your hair first. Rinse it away, without leaving any suds. Apply an excess amount of oil, enough to completely cover your hair. Use your fingers and a wide-toothed comb to distribute it evenly through out your hair, making sure each strand is covered with oil from roots to tips. Let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes. Rinse away the oil and apply the conditioner. You can also apply the conditioner before rinsing off the oil.
How often you should Oil Rinse your hair?
It is not necessary to do oil rinsing every time you wash your hair. You can do it whenever you feel your hair look dry and brittle. However, try to make it a habit during fall and winter, as in these weathers your hair dry up quickly because of indoor heating and cold weather.
Benefits of Oil Rinsing
- Helps you retain hair moisture for a long time.
- Makes detangling the hair easier for you.
- Gives your hair long-lasting shine.
- Eliminates the frizz.
- Makes hair smoother and softer.
You should keep a few things in mind while doing an oil rinse. Always rinse the oil with cool water. Cool water seals the hair cuticle, warm water doesn’t. Don’t rinse the oil out of your hair altogether. Let some quantity stay in your hair but not too much.
