Best foods to lift your mood
Do you want to feel better everyday? You have to take the natural and edible route to lift your mood. Yes! That's FOOD. Go through our blog below to know which foods are the best to get you out of your melancholy.
Chocolate
Not only does it taste heavenly, chocolate helps you boost your mood in no time. Dark chocolate reduces stress hormones in a depressed person, all credit to its antioxidant properties. The caffeine in it also helps to boost your energy.
Fish
Oily, fatty fish like tuna, salmon, sardines etc have this wonder ingredient called Omega-3 fatty acids which is a key mood boosting ingredient. They alter chemicals related to mood such as dopamine and serotonin. Since our body does not produce it, it is integral that you increase its intake as much as you can especially when you want a mood lift.
Carbs
Time to turn a deaf ear to people who say carbs make you fat because they boost your mood like nothing else does. They are said to encourage the production of serotonin, a chemical produced by brain, which regulates your mood. Remember to go low GI for a steady release of energy and avoid sugary carbs.
Nuts
Brazil nuts, walnuts, all nuts are known to be amazing mood boosters. Brazil nuts have selenium which is an important antioxidant for the body. For those who don’t know, antioxidants play a great role in minimising bad moods.
Pastured Eggs
All the egg lovers will be pleased to know that research has proved that eggs also serve the purpose of mood booster. They are full of mood improving nutrients such as omega-3s, iodide, zinc and B vitamins.
Saffron
A little expensive but an exotic spice, Saffron has been known to be a great energy booster for ages. Researchers claim that it works in the same way as antidepressant Prozac, which is encouraging the production of brain’s feel-good chemical called serotonin.
Fruits and Vegetables
And of course, all the feel-good leafy veggies and happy-colored fruits are always there to save the day. Green, leafy vegetables like spinach, asparagus etc have this very important antidepressant nutrient called folate, a B vitamin. This nutrient is necessary for the production of brain’s mood chemicals such as dopamine and serotonin. Fruits such as oranges and papaya have folic acid and vitamin B6. Both of these nutrients help in lessening the depression and improving mood.
Yogurt
Yogurt, apart from being yummy, is a great source of calcium. Research has proved that low levels of calcium may contribute to depression, anxiety etc. For instant happiness, serve yourself some yogurt topped with delicious berries.
